About Us

The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia has issued a certificate to operate to The Canine Clippers School of Pet Grooming. Since opening in August 1982, we are dedicated to furthering the grooming profession and to our conviction that graduates perform in a skilled and responsible manner. Students under the direction of our highly competent instructors will acquire the skills necessary for employment in the many sub-specialties of our field.

For almost thirty years, our director, Linda Law, has competed in national and international competitions and has received many awards, along with invitations to judge and speak at grooming competitions. Our instructors have also won many awards in national and international grooming competitions. One took a 3rrd place award in ‘Poodles’ and a 2nd place in ‘Mixed Breeds’ at the 1987 Virginia Dog Groomers Contest. Another has taken a 2nd place award in ‘Pure Breeds’ and a 3rd place award in ‘Miniature Poodles’ at the February 1991 Virginia Groomers Association Contest. Many of our graduates have placed in numerous grooming competitions nationwide. In 1994, two graduates won a Gold Medal and a Silver Medal at the International Competition, “Intergroom 1994”.

Ronda Law Nottingham claimed 1st place in ‘Creative Styling’ at the 1997 VGA show. She won multiple awards at multiple grooming competitions, including Best Report out of 117 competitors at the Grooming Expo in Hershey PA. Deanna Rudnick took 3rd place in the A Division at the All American Show in Chicago. Mari Dancause took 1st place in ‘Creative Styling’ in February 1999 and 2nd in ‘Terriers’ in February 2000. Also, Mari was named a rising star in 2002, 2003 and ‘rising star’ in ‘Mixed Breed Misc.’ at Intergroom International’ competition. She earned 2nd place in ‘Creative Styling’ at 2004 Grooming Expo. Maria Sherman placed 3rd in Terriers with a Scottie in February 2003 and 1st in Terriers with a Border Terrier in February 2005. Elaina Smith won 1st in Cockers in February 2000. Students should be prepared to bring with them enthusiasm, creativity, and an expression of their own individuality. The students at Canine Clippers School of Pet Grooming acquire extensive training in both canine and feline care. Students receive 120 hours of lectures and 480 hours of practical application.

The lectures cover a broad range of information in the pet grooming business including ‘Management Principles for Operating Your Own Business’. Another important component of the curriculum is the visits made to other pet related facilities and mobile pet grooming units. In addition, students are taught how to utilize the grooming industry’s popular computer application, Avalon ‘KennelSoft’, and ‘Clipper Vac System’, an essential tool in keeping the grooming environment clean and protecting the lungs of both groomers and animals. In order to give the student the highest quality education possible, we allow six students per session. By limiting the number of students, our instructors are able to give personal attention to those needing extra help. The current total cost is $7800.00, which consists of a $50 application fee, $1400 for tools and uniforms, $300 for texts, and $6050 for tuition. These costs may be financed at 10% interest.
